Belzec was the first extermination camp made. The reason of making it was for Operation Reinhard- to murder Polish Jews while Germany was occupied parts of Poland. It was constructed in November 1941. The camp was constructed of two different parts. The first part was were the barracks were and were the Jews were held. The second part is where the burial spots were and the gas chambers. Both areas were surrounded by barbed wire and had guard towers surrounding it so there was no was of escape. On estimate more than 600,000 Jews were murdered here. When the camp was closed down the Germans buried all the bodies, plunged all of the sites, and turned it into a farm so that they could hide the truth of the Jewish extermination.
